This beautiful antique sterling silver locket hails from the Victorian era and is engraved in a different floral pattern on each side.
Exquisitely detailed and nice and deep the locket is engraved on one side with a flower and fern bouquet framed in a dot pattern. The other side features a central shield surrounded by flowers and leaves bordered with scroll flourishes. A lovely variety of flowers, very much in the Victorian language of flowers sentimentality, we see symbolic roses, pansies, nasturtiums and lilies at the very least!
The locket opens from the side to reveal 2 deep compartments for photos or other mementoes. There is no picture ring inside but there is a hard plastic 'glass' photo cover. The top of the locket has a large pillowed heavy duty fan shaped bail which will accommodate a wide variety and weights of chain. The locket is in very, very good antique condition with signs of wear and age as expected in a piece this age, please see photos. The hinge is good working order and the locket closes tightly and securely.
