This beautiful antique uranium glass bead necklace glows softly with a touch of mystery. Made between the late 19th and early 20th century, each bead contains a trace of uranium oxide — the secret behind its luminous green-blue colour and distinctive green glow under UV light.
The necklace is composed of large green-blue faceted glass beads and smaller mint-green pressed glass beads that have a wonderful nubby texture . The beads are connected together by links of chain and the necklace fastens with a screw barrel clasp.
Often called Vaseline glass or canary glass, uranium glass jewellery was especially popular in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. These beads were admired for their delicate translucence and captivating radiance — a true blend of art, science, and style. Despite their name, the uranium content is tiny and perfectly safe to wear.
