This exceptional Victorian sterling silver kilt pin showcases a large oval cut natural citrine (known as a Cairngorm in Scotland) set into a grouse claw and comes in a purple antique velvet box for safekeeping. An extraordinary piece, we have never seen another quite like it!
Crafted in heavy gauge sterling silver the kilt pin is decorated on the top in a beautifully modelled grouse claw replete with curly feathers and rugged scales. The pin part is very thick and heavy duty so it will go through the thick or close weave fabrics without a problem and won't bend. The claw tightly grasps a golden yellow citrine of around 10 carats and a long safety chain and pin adds to the incredible decorative appeal of this piece. The citrine has been tested and verified using a Presidium Gemstone Tester.
Traditionally worn to weigh down the front of the kilt this pin is equally at home making a statement on a jacket or scarf so good for the ladies or the gents. An absolutely fantastic piece of authentic antique Scottish dress jewellery, hand crafted, top quality and heirloom worthy! The Grouse is the national game bird of Scotland.

HALLMARKS: none as is typical with early pieces and we have acid tested all parts to verify it is sterling
CONDITION: in fine antique condition with minor surface wear in keeping with age and no chips in the gemstone. The box is in good antique condition and it is printed with " F. Wharton Smith, 2, St. James Street, Burnley" inside the lid.
