This charming antique Victorian stick pin is carved out of Whitby Jet, an ancient mineral gemstone found in and around the cliffs in Whitby, a seaside hamlet in England. Just imagine wearing a 180 million year old gemstone on your lapel, tie or cravat!
A classic piece of Victorian mourning jewellery, the jet is carved in raised polished initials 'JC' against a matte textured background. The 'JC' represents Jesus Christ, this was a piece worn to show piety and faith during trying times. A thick gauge gold gilt pin stem finishes this lovely example of long forgotten customs and tradition.
This stick pin is in excellent condition with no damage to the Whitby jet which is deep black and glossy. It measures 3"/ 6cm long (the jet measures 16x14mm and 6mm deep) and weighs 2 grams.
A sweet and affordable piece of antique Whitby jet jewellery and a lovely accent accessory good for the gents or the ladies!
