A beautiful quality late 1930's 12 carat rolled gold/gold filled sterling silver sweetheart locket. The locket has a mother-of-pearl panel on the front and a gold flag and torch insignia for the US Signal Corps.
A scalloped gold border frames the pearl panel and the the back is decorated in lovely engine turned engraving. The locket has a ribbed bale and suspends from a gold plated sterling silver chain.
The back of the locket opens to reveal a photo of a handsome serviceman on one side and an empty station at the other for another photo. The picture rings flip out effortlessly with your finger nail and the original paper liners and hard plastic photo covers are still present.
This is a fabulous example of World War 2 era American patriotic jewellery. The locket is stamped on the back 'PR ST Co. 1/20 12K GF on STERLING' a makers mark for the Providence Stock Company, a jewellery manufacturer that was based in Rhode Island, USA.
