Circa 1970, a bold and striking vintage 14K gold filled green malachite gemstone bead necklace that is absolutely unique!
At a sassy 25" (64cm) long this luxurious necklace has 30 distinctive cone shaped beads displaying a remarkable variety of light and dark green banding and swirls throughout. The malachite stones are beautifully polished and in their natural state without a heavy resin coating so they have a silky lustre without being over glossy.
No two beads are identical in either shape, size or markings with some flaunting specks of copper that glitter for attention. The beads are connected together with gold filled (heavy gold plated) head pins and the necklace fastens with gold filled bolt ring.
The beads are hand cut and drilled and vary in size from roughly 12mm to 22mm in length, they are cold to the touch and have been tested using a Presidium Gem Tester. The necklace weighs 102 grams.
The necklace is in very, very good vintage condition with light wear. The beads do have natural imperfections as expected in soft stones that are earth mined. A larger hole has worn through one of the beads (please refer to the photos) but there is still plenty of thickness around the bead wall so it is stable and won't detach. The 14K gold filled fittings are free of any surface loss to the gold overlay so they are still buttery yellow and tarnish free.
Malachite is the essence of joy, a fabulous and unique necklace all round, perfect for adding a slice of drama and luxury to any outfit!
