A fantastic vintage sterling silver & enamel stylized moth brooch by Scottish silversmith Pat Cheney.
The brooch is dated 1982 so a fairly early piece from this designer and silversmith who studied Fine Arts at Falmouth College of Art in Scotland. In 1976 he opened Pat Cheney Jewellery.
"Line and balance of form have always been an important element in my designs, many of which show the stylized influence of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods." He sold the company in 1990 to the Ortak Jewellery company which is based in the Orkney Islands of Scotland.
This brooch is a classic Art Nouveau design and reminiscent of the Charles Horner pieces of the early 20th century. It is fashioned as a moth and wonderfully tactile with a whiplash outline and beautifully enamelled wings in rich blue, turquoise and green jewel tones. A silver dangle forms the abdomen which sways with every movement.
Fabulous quality and design gives this collectible Scottish brooch an elegant edge, effortlessly stylish and good for the ladies or the gents.
