Not to be confused with French Jet, which is glass, this striking 1970s sterling silver ring showcases Whitby Jet, a fossilized mineral gemstone millions of years old that is only found in and around the cliffs at Whitby, a seaside hamlet in England. It is warm to the touch and very lightweight rather like amber but a deep opaque black colour with a glossy shine.
Bearing English hallmarks for 1977 the ring is modernist and crafted in a brutalist design. Craggy textured lines of silver elevate the jet cabochon high on the finger, the silver design lends itself to the organic nature of the jet, it towers just like the cliffs where the jet is mined. Beautiful statement ring showcasing a lovely specimen of genuine Whitby jet, iconic of an era and wonderfully gothic!
Our shop is located in the heart of the old Victorian Whitby jet industry and our jet is locally sourced.
