A stunning vintage 1980's Whitby jet sterling silver cocktail ring. Not to be confused with French jet, which is glass, Whitby Jet is a fossilized mineral gemstone millions of years old that is only found in and around the cliffs in Whitby, a seaside hamlet in England.
Crafted on a commanding scale this chunky glamorous ring showcases a large domed cabochon of superb Whitby jet that is mounted in a D-shaped bezel. The gemstone is enclosed at the back in textured silver. Sleek spoon shaped shoulders at each side lead to to a thick D-shaped band that echoes the bezel design. A high quality and striking statement ring with marvellous finger coverage and plenty of presence!
If you have yet to meet genuine Whitby jet, it is a beautiful gemstone used since ancient times - Jet jewellery that dates to Roman times has been unearthed in Britain.
