A beautiful Edwardian solid 9ct gold fob seal, hallmarked for Birmingham 1910, featuring an exquisitely decorative openwork scroll mount set with a beautifully polished unengraved bloodstone.

Originally worn suspended from a gentleman's watch chain, fob seals were both practical and deeply personal possessions. Traditionally engraved with monograms, family crests or mottos, they were used to impress wax seals onto letters and important documents while reflecting their owner's taste and social standing. Today they have found a new life as highly collectible pendants and charms, admired for their history, craftsmanship and enduring antique appeal.

Crafted in warm rosy 9ct gold, this is a wonderfully substantial example with a satisfying weight in the hand. The elegant openwork mount is richly decorated with flowing scrollwork, retaining crisp definition throughout, while the generously sized bail allows it to be worn on a wide variety of necklace chains. Equally striking worn alone or layered with other antique jewellery, it makes an effortlessly wearable piece of Edwardian history. (Please note the display chain is not included.)

The base is set with a beautifully polished rounded rectangular bloodstone displaying deep forest green colouring with natural red flecks. Unlike many surviving fob seals, the stone remains unengraved, allowing it to be enjoyed exactly as it has survived for more than a century, or personalised by a future owner if desired.

With its generous proportions, substantial weight and timeless design, this handsome Edwardian fob seal bridges the worlds of antique collecting and contemporary jewellery, offering a rare opportunity to own a piece of history that is every bit as wearable today as it was over a century ago.
