An unusual antique Victorian watch fob pendant featuring a concealed hinged compartment, dating to around 1900. Originally worn on a gentleman's watch chain, pieces of this type are now highly sought after as distinctive pendants, combining decorative craftsmanship with an intriguing hidden feature.
The fob is beautifully modelled with an ornate sculptural openwork mount, richly decorated with scrolling foliate motifs and delicate embossed detailing. The base is formed as a reeded button-back style compartment lid, accented with black enamel scrollwork. Opening the hinged door reveals a small hollow interior, perfect for holding a tiny precious keepsake or personal treasure.
Two substantial soldered jump rings have been fitted to the top, allowing the pendant to hang correctly when worn.
The piece remains in fair antique condition with visible age-related wear to the finish and patina acquired over more than a century of use. Areas of both yellow and rose-gold colouring are present; whether this represents the original two-tone finish or wear to the plating over time is uncertain. The hinged compartment closes securely with a satisfying click.
