This magnificent antique 800 silver Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) pendant hails from Germany and opens in a scissor action to reveal a mirror inside. Incredibly ornate it features a stunning deeply embossed floral design on both sides with stylized Irises and whiplash tendrils. It opens to reveal the mirror in one side framed in claret coloured cord, the other side is lined in velvet in the same rich red colour. To the exterior, one side is engraved in a beautiful engraved monogram "MW"
Superb quality and a large size the pendant is stamped in German hallmarks: a crown and '800' along with an entwined makers mark. 800 Silver is a alloy containing 80% pure silver (sterling contains 92.5% silver). It is more durable and a deeper richer colour than sterling and was commonly used in 19th and early 20th century jewellery hailing from the Continent.
The top of the pendant features a large oval bale ready to pair with a statement chain that matches her undeniable character, please note the chain shown is not included.
