Circa 1850, this amazing Victorian Scottish agate inlay bar brooch is a very large size, superb quality and meticulously crafted by hand.
Made in heavy gauge sterling silver it features stunning specimens of Scottish agates that are precision cut and invisibly set into a foundation of local black slate, an older laminating technique usually seen in earlier examples of inlaid agate brooches. 19th century Scottish agate (pebble) jewellery of this type is prized for this innovative use of cut agate in these intricate inlays.
The setting is crafted in solid thick sterling silver and is beautifully decorative with bow motifs accenting all four side. The back of the brooch has a strong heavy duty pin stem, t-hinge and c-clasp with lots of room behind to accommodate gathering, for wear on heavy fabrics and it is weighty enough to wear as a kilt pin.
A collector's dream find, if you're looking for a unique piece of antique Scottish pebble jewellery then this may be the one for you! It is very difficult to find these Victorian inlaid agate brooches in such superb condition.
