A beautifully preserved example of mid-century British gold jewellery, this elegant 9ct gold bangle was crafted by the Birmingham maker Payton, Pepper & Sons Ltd.
The striking geometric design features a beautifully faceted, diamond-cut finish that catches and reflects the light with every movement. Its sleek, architectural styling is wonderfully characteristic of the tailored elegance of 1950s jewellery.
Hinged at the side, the bangle fastens with a discreet push-button clasp, closing securely with a satisfying click. The original gold safety chain remains intact.
Of particular interest is the construction, stamped "9CT GOLD" and "METAL CORE". This traditional British manufacturing technique bonded a substantial outer layer of solid 9ct gold over a strong structural metal core, creating a durable, weighty piece without the expense of making the entire bangle from solid gold. Favoured by quality jewellery manufacturers, this construction offered excellent strength and resistance to the dents and distortion associated with hollow gold bangles.
Weighing an impressive 19.5 grams, it has a wonderfully substantial feel on the wrist, while retaining the warmth and beauty of genuine 9ct gold.
