This beautiful statuesque antique Edwardian 9ct gold locket necklace is stamped with hallmarks for Chester 1912 and is in remarkable condition especially given age. Chester assay office closed permanently in 1962 so jewellery bearing these historical hallmarks is particularly desirable and collectible.
Crafted in warm rosy gold the locket is perfectly round and a generous size in a beautiful Art Nouveau influenced design with a raised border around the edge in a wonderful quatrefoil shape. Elegant machine engraved lines in columns provide a pleasing contrast and the front has a vacant round cartouche to accommodate a monogram should you wish to have it engraved in initials for a personal touch.
The locket opens at the top to reveal a 2 compartments for photos along with the original gold picture rings which look to have never been used. The top is finished in a gold jump ring that is soldered closed. The locket suspends from a beautiful 9ct gold cable chain which we have every reason to believe is original to the piece. The chain is a good weight, not fine and flimsy, and it fastens with a bolt ring clasp.

MEASUREMENTS: locket 1-1/4/3cm in diameter and 4.5mm deep. Chain 16-1/2"/ 42cm
HALLMARKS: locket stamped '9-375' for 9ct gold, 'wheat sheaves & sword' for Chester, date letter 'M' for 1912 on the reverse and '9-375' on the inside. Jump ring stamped '9-375', chain clasp stamped '9C' on the ring. Extensive hallmarking like this is always a sign of a quality piece.

CONDITION: Excellent with minimal surface wear and the locket closing securely with a satisfying click. Note any dark spots or odd lumps and bumps are reflections
