An exquisite antique 18ct gold brooch showcasing nine stunning natural earth-mined rose cut Georgian diamonds. The central 'Brabant' cut diamond is of oval form arranged on the horizontal. Bordering this are eight further 'Dutch' cut diamonds with slight varying shapes (mostly oval, some round). The Brabant (also known as Antwerp) cut and Dutch cut are the oldest forms of rose cuts and they were very popular in the 17th century.
The magnificent transparent diamonds are cut down and set in silver with the brooch fittings made in 18ct yellow gold. The diamonds are foiled and have closed backs that are cupped. White metal reflects light better in diamond settings which is why you see jewellery of this period mounted in both silver and gold. These stunning antique diamonds look significantly larger than their recorded weight due to rose cuts having a shallower pavilion and larger table.
