Fully hallmarked for the year 1847 this superb vinaigrette made by English silversmiths William & Edward Turnpenny is a fine collector's piece, and an all round exquisite example of Victorian craftsmanship.
With every inch intricately engraved and embossed this vinaigrette is fashioned in a stunning locket/ pendant form and benefits from a hanging loop at the top to attach to a chatelaine or watch chain. No languishing in a drawer for this beauty!
Oval in shape with a scalloped outline, each side is intricately engraved in a different machine turned rhombus pattern. One side is decorated in a shield shaped cartouche engraved in a beautiful monogram "CAI". Not to be outdone the sides are beautifully decorated in scroll work and hand-engraving.
The lid opens to reveal a gold gilded interior and a hinged silver grille which is exquisitely pierced and engraved in a floral & foliate design. The skill and time required to craft the grille alone is remarkable and all done by hand.
Condition is outstanding as is quality, this is the crème de la crème of vinaigrettes with very little evidence of any real use.
Steeped in history and social culture this beautiful vinaigrette will look wonderful paired with a substantial silver chain to match her character. We are including a little piece of elephant ear sponge ready to soak up your favourite scent, just in case you need to ward off a noxious odour!
