A fabulously robust antique sterling silver long guard chain with classic curb links and a dog-clip. A continuous chain that goes over the head, the curb links are tightly woven which results in a strong heavy duty chain that can form the occasional kink but a firm jiggle and twist at both sides of the kink soon releases it.
Very fashionable during the Georgian and Victorian eras these versatile and decorative guard chains were one of several jewels worn at the same time. They were used to attach, and keep close at hand, all manner of things like pocket watches, lorgnettes and portrait miniatures of loved ones.
This is a fairly heavy gauge chain with a good weight and it is in very, very good antique condition with no broken links. It terminates in a heavy duty closed (soldered) jump ring and a swivel clip that is in perfect working order closing tightly.
A beautiful old Victorian silver chain, it has interest whether worn long, doubled or even tripled, add a locket or a pendant or not! Please note the locket shown is not included.
