Circa 1910, a very fine 18ct gold, emerald and pearl Art Nouveau lavaliere pendant necklace weighing over 10 grams. A quality piece meticulously crafted by hand in luxurious bright buttery 18ct yellow gold. The mount is of a substantial gauge rather than thin or flimsy, giving the necklace a satisfying weight and presence.
The pendant is designed in the elegant lavaliere style popular at the turn of the 20th century. It is constructed in three articulated sections in a graceful openwork whiplash design, set with softly faceted emeralds displaying a lively translucent spring green with visible natural inclusions (‘jardin’) characteristic of genuine stones. The delicate seed pearls are a soft creamy white with a beautiful natural lustre.
The gemstones are open-backed and securely mounted in deep settings, allowing light to pass through the emeralds and enhancing their natural colour. The top of the pendant features a round emerald in a target-style collet setting, which connects to the main body of the pendant via a pair of oval link chains.
At the centre, an articulated emerald drop trembles gently with movement, catching the light with every step, while a further pear-shaped emerald drop completes the design at the base. The pendant is suspended from a fine antique chain composed of slender long bar links alternating with oval links, perfectly complementing the flowing lines of the pendant.
