An extraordinary 18th century Georgian portrait miniature set into a substantial 18ct gold locket pendant. Exquisitely painted and superb quality the reverse of the pendant has a solid gold back with a small oval compartment in the centre containing a braided hair weave. As an added treat the miniature comes in the antique faux tortoiseshell jewellers case shown in the photos.
The bust length portrait is meticulously painted in vivid watercolours. The painting depicts a beautiful young Regency era woman against a rich orange and brown background. She wears a white satin and lace gown that provides a striking contrast against the vibrant background and she is wearing what looks like a tiny coral brooch in her décolletage.
Steeped in history this beautiful miniature masterpiece is an absolute delight. Portrait miniatures were used as portable and wearable reminders of loved ones long before the advent of photography and they offer us a fascinating glimpse into the past.

CONDITION: in very fine antique condition, any discoloured areas on the gold are reflections. The painting is still fresh and vibrant with no noted areas of loss or deterioration. The glass is free of cracks or chips and the hair in the back panel is still tightly woven. The jewellers case is printed 'John Mason, Watchmaker & Jeweller, Estd. 1695. 36, High St., Rotherham' inside the lid, it has a paper covered wood exterior with a velvet and satin lined interior and it is in good condition
