Originally a double-sided glass photo locket pendant, this piece has been thoughtfully reimagined as a striking bloodstone pendant, giving new life to a beautiful Victorian jewel while preserving its original character.
The large circular bloodstone is a rich forest green with a generous scattering of natural crimson inclusions, expertly fitted within the original spectacle-style bezel. Every stone has its own unique pattern, making this pendant completely one of a kind.
Crafted in rolled rose gold, the mount has the soft, warm blush tone so characteristic of antique rose gold. Although not solid gold, the rich colour and remarkable preservation of the rolled gold finish give the pendant the appearance of solid gold. A decorative beaded border surrounds the bloodstone, while the pocket watch-style bale still unscrews exactly as intended, to access the compartment that once held photographs beneath circular glass panels.
First patented in England in 1814, rolled gold (also known as gold-filled) is created by permanently bonding a thick layer of solid gold to a base metal core. It became especially popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras as a durable, high-quality alternative to solid gold, and well-preserved examples like this continue to display their beautiful golden lustre more than a century later.
We have paired the pendant with a new rose gold vermeil (gold-plated sterling silver) fine anchor-link chain, so it arrives ready to wear or to give as a thoughtful antique gift.
A distinctive piece of reimagined antique jewellery, combining Victorian craftsmanship with the timeless beauty of natural bloodstone—ready to begin its next chapter as a necklace or on an antique watch chain.
