A beautiful antique Victorian spinning seal fob crafted in rich rolled gold by the highly regarded Birmingham jeweller Thomas Hopwood. Renowned for producing some of the finest quality rolled gold jewellery of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, Hopwood's pieces are prized today for their exceptional craftsmanship and remarkably durable finish.
The revolving fob is set with two classic Scottish hardstones: a warm, spicy brown carnelian on one side and a deep forest-green bloodstone dramatically flecked with natural crimson markings on the other. The distinctive rope-twist rotating mount not only provides decorative appeal but allows you to effortlessly change the look to suit your mood or style.
Originally intended to hang from a gentleman's watch chain, the fob is fitted with a generous jump ring ready to wear on your favourite necklace or Albert chain. It also looks wonderful added to a chunky charm bracelet, making it a remarkably versatile antique accessory.
Victorian rolled gold (also known as gold-filled) represented the finest quality alternative to solid gold. Rather than being merely plated, a substantial layer of gold was permanently bonded to a base metal core under heat and pressure, creating jewellery of exceptional durability, warmth and longevity. More than a century later, this beautifully preserved example still retains the rich appearance and feel that made rolled gold so highly regarded.
A handsome and highly wearable antique spinner fob that combines historic charm, quality craftsmanship and timeless versatility.
