An interesting mixed lot of four various British retailers antique jewellery boxes with brown faux tortoiseshell leather exteriors accented with gold tooling. The boxes have cream coloured linings and push button openers.
Dating to the Victorian/Edwardian era, 1900 to 1915, the boxes are suitable for displaying a wide variety of jewellery and for using as antique props.
The large necklace/hat pin box is unprinted, so no retailers name on this one. There are 2 rectangular fitted watch/bracelet boxes, one from Schierwater & Lloyd Ltd., Watchmakers & Jewellers, Church Street, Liverpool and the other from a Scottish Jewellers: W. Dodds, 7 Eastgate, Peebles. The square pendant/earring/brooch box is printed "Selangor" with a lovely crescent moon crest logo, likely from jewellers in British Malaya.
All of them are in pre-loved condition with expected signs of age. They are good quality and very solidly constructed and they all have various degrees of surface wear. Although they look like they have leather exteriors it is a lacquered faux finish on thick cardboard covered wood.
The interiors are dirt and age stained to various degrees. The hinges on all of the boxes are in good solid condition as are the push button openers and they shut tightly closed with a satisfying snap.
