A darling little Victorian 'Coque de Perle' silver stock pin brooch that comes along with the antique fitted box it was discovered in from "Fancy Jeweller & Silversmith C.L. Wilson, Grainger St., Newcastle-Upon-Tyne"
Coque de Perle, from the French for ‘pearl shell’ is a faux pearl made from the East Indian Nautilus shell. The central whorl of the shell is cut away and filled with cement to give it body. Displaying a high level of iridescence these delicate 'eggshell pearls' are mostly found in Georgian jewellery and are very collectible!
A traditional equestrian "nappy pin" style the brooch is elegant in its simplicity with the elongated oval pearl mounted in a closed back setting and framed in a double row of rope trim. A sweet piece of antique silver jewellery, good for the ladies or the gents and would make a great gift!
