A beautifully crafted Art Deco era sterling silver statement ring that started life as a dated silver bar awarded for successfully passing the annual St John Ambulance re-examinations. These bars recognised continued proficiency and were worn on the uniform suspended from a St John Ambulance Service medal.
The front retains the raised "1935" date, framed by finely cast floral motifs and ropework borders characteristic of late Art Deco design. A subtle oxidised finish enhances the depth of the detailing, bringing contrast and definition to the design.
To the inside, the Birmingham hallmarks remain clearly preserved: the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor assay mark, date letter 'K' for 1934, and the maker's mark for William Dowler & Sons. The original service registration number (280318) is also present, an intimate trace of the award's first owner and a tangible link to its history.
