A striking and exceptionally rare early mid-century handwrought copper bracelet by Roslyn Hoffman, an influential American jewellery designer whose distinctive work is celebrated for its bold, architectural forms and richly dimensional construction.
Hoffman produced only limited studio work during the 1950s, making surviving examples from this early period particularly scarce, and this remarkable bracelet is a particularly whimsical expression of her artistic approach and design. The uniquely shaped sculptural panels feature raised ballerina figures captured in different expressive poses. With their distinctive flared tutus, the figures are reminiscent of the iconic pirouetting ballerinas found inside mid-century musical jewellery boxes — an evocative motif of the period that gives the bracelet a wonderfully quirky, playful and theatrical quality.
The bracelet fastens with its original fold-over hinged clasp and is signed “Roslyn Hoffman” in her distinctive stylised script on the reverse of every panel.
