Vintage 1950s Taxco Sterling Silver & Black Enamel Cufflinks by J. Sotelo
A striking and substantial pair of vintage 1950s Mexican sterling silver cufflinks by J. Sotelo, made in Taxco, Mexico.
The large circular faces measure an impressive 3cm (1-1/8 inch) in diameter, giving these cufflinks a wonderfully bold, graphic presence. Each is decorated with contrasting black enamel in a distinctive stepped geometric motif, creating a strong architectural, mid-century look.
The highly polished sterling silver provides a dramatic contrast to the black enamel, while the generous scale makes these genuine statement cufflinks rather than a discreet accessory. The design has the clean, geometric character so strongly associated with mid-century Mexican silver.
The reverse of each cufflink is extensively marked 'HECHO EN MEXICO 925', 'TAXCO STERLING' and with J. Sotelo's distinctive JS maker's mark.
They have robust hinged toggle backs, which are sprung and lock securely into position. They are beautifully made and have a pleasing weight in the hand.
A particularly handsome pair for anyone who appreciates vintage Taxco silver, Mexican jewellery and strong mid-century design.

CONDITION: Very good vintage condition with light surface wear and fine scratches commensurate with age and use. The black enamel remains attractive and well preserved. Visible dark areas on the silver are reflections. The hinged fittings are sprung and lock securely into position.
