A top quality pair of vintage Whitby jet sterling silver floral drop earrings. Whitby Jet is a fossilised mineral gemstone millions of years old that is only found in and around Whitby, a seaside hamlet in England.
Crafted in a gorgeous Art Deco style but in a modern statement size the earrings feature elegant teardrop shaped studs at the top with beautiful open work flower drops that are set with oval cabochons of glossy black jet. Steely grey marcasite gemstones add a gorgeous sparkle that compliment the earrings oxidised silver finish to perfection. Lastly, large decorative butterfly backs complete these beautiful stylish earrings that have plenty of presence and lovely movement when worn.
If you've never enjoyed genuine Whitby jet jewellery before it is a wonderful organic gemstone used since ancient times. Polished to a high shine it is a glossy intense deep black and it is surprisingly lightweight and warm to the touch.
